Pyramid doorstopper

Each week I focus on giving two rooms of the house a thorough clean. (I have a list for 6 weeks - I have lots of rooms :) - then I start the list again). Today was the laundry and one of the kids bedrooms. This big water container has been my laundry door stopper since we moved to this house. It's big and ugly! So I googled and found this tutorial and whipped up a nicer doorstopper. Now I think this door needs a new coat of paint! Chatterbox and I filled it with gravel/roadbase from the side of our driveway. We have mice here so I couldn't fill it with rice. And I had visions of sand coming from the seams so gravel it was. I think Now I need some more for some of the many! doors in this house.

Felt food

A little while ago now I created some felt food with some coloured felt I had at home. Little miss Muffet loves pretend playing with food, cups, plates, spoons, forks. One banana (which you can peel) and two strawberries.

Gingerbreadman 2

And there you have it.. Our gingerbreadman :) hoping to get some better photos of the day still. I also baked some gingerbreadmens for the class using a recipe from taste.com.au

Gingerbread man

Bookweek is so much fun (and lots of work). I picked a book and decided on a gingerbread man. I did some googling, found some inspiration. And then I just winged it. I used well fitting pair of pants and shirt. Designed the body using that. Sewed up the legs and sides. Then fitted the sleeves and shoulders and a long zip at the back. The white lines btw are done before you sew it together. I did it with three strands of white wool twisted together with a white zigzag stitch over the top. The head is two 'circles'. The red mouth and eyes are felt. We cut out some firm foam (which btw isn't cheap to buy - crazy clarks was going to charge me over $50 for a little off cut - so we scavenged the verge collections for some foam furniture). I sewed a lining on the inside of the head.

Quilting

This is my second shot at quilting...I will show you my first quilting project another time.   I wanted to create another quilt for little Miss Muffets doll pram.  I started by taking measurements, drew a picture of how I wanted it to look.  Cut out the fabric (with my rotary cutter) and then started to attach the pieces together.  The photo's aren't doing the colour of the fabric any justice...but it was taken in the evening so it was fairly dark.  I used the method from here as my guide.

Pram quilt

Here is the end result.  The colours look much better in the sun :)

Lunch Bag

I think this sewing is starting to agree with me.  Little Miss Muffets nappy bag is falling apart, and then I came across this along my travels to find the perfect egg basket for when our chooks (chickens for those outside aus) arrive this saturday.  Isn't it gorgeous?  The photos (which by the way are taken by my iphone because thats the easiest) definately do not do it any justice.
It is definately homemade...I needed 12 1/2 inches in width and the fabric was just not wide enough...so here is that side of the fabric which tells you the fabrics designer....the Alexander Henry Fabrics
Inside the bag is a liner and this brown thing...so nothing will fall out the bag and nor can people look in the bag
The wonderful tutorial for this bag is here.  Although it is smaller than I thought it was going to be...I hope we can fit a few nappies in it :)

Shirt to Dress

My mum went through my dad's wardrobe to clear out all those neat shirts he never wore.  Today she came and dropped of two boxes of neatly folded shirts.  Here is one of them...never worn by dad...brand new!
And I transformed it into this:
And here a photo of the back of the dress
I wasnt sure about adding other fabric colours to it...so I kept it the one colour.  I can always add a frilly hem to the bottom when little Miss Muffet has grown a bit taller.  It took me less than two hours to make (with no interuptions!).  I used the tutorial from here to make this dress.
