A Capelet

I created this cape for Little Miss Muffet a few days ago... I followed the tutorial from here.  Unfortunately I did a child size neck, I probably should have created my own toddler size neck hole...as it is sort of falling from Miss Muffets shoulders.  I also made it double layer with a thicker warmer fabric in between the layers.  It came out rather thick and so it also doesn't fall down nicely along her body but rather sticks out a bit.  It was a good experience tho and I can't wait for the opportunity to give this capelet another shot when Little Miss Muffet has grown a little more.

Gift idea

A lovely friend of mine and her daughter had a b'day celebration. It's winter weather so nothing better than curling up with a magazine with a hot drink.

Ah Tissue

I never buy those expensive, fancy looking tissue boxes with two or more ply soft tissue paper.  No, I purchase the cheapest kind.  You wipe a nose and the tissue ends up in the bin, there is no point wasting money on it.  Unless of course your nose won't stop dripping and your skin is getting raw....then we prefer to use handkerchiefs and a drop of vaseline.  Here is a photo of our plain, boring and cheap tissue box:
I
And here is the cover I made for it today.  No one will ever know that I buy the cheapest tissue box with the boringest (is that a word?) artwork.

I used the tutorial from here to make this cover.

Kids Art Work

The boys created these already two years ago in 2009. They are the wall art work in their games room. I recall they were loads of fun and mess to make! I had purchased the canvas from Red Dot. Used an old carpet rug on the floor, and the bath was filled... So each boy took a turn and then daddy carried them to the bathroom for a good scrubbing.

Another twirly skirt

Seeing that the first twirly skirt was so easy I went through my box of off cuts and found this gorgeous flowerly fabric that I used many years ago in High School for some sewing project which I still have floating around somewhere.  Taking photos of Miss Muffet is proving very hard to do...there is not a minute she stands still...always on the move feeding teddys, and today, she started twirling....I wonder if that is because of the skirts.  She can't really wear them yet as it is still so cold, and I haven't yet got a matching top to go with it.  The one she is wearing in the photo is a work in progress trail, when I have it figured out I will post a photo :)

A twirly apple skirt

I found this gorgeous apple fabric here and with free delivery I couldn't resist to purchase some.  This twirly skirt is very easy to make.  See the tutorial here!

little black dress

I had this t-shirt in my wardrobe that did not sit well on me...so after having been inspired online, I turned it into this gorgeous dress for little Miss Muffet.  When I find the good tutorial I used I will link it here.

a t-shirt dress...

I converted a newly purchased t-shirt for coming summer into a dress for Miss Muffet.   I got the idea from here. I cut off the bottom half of the shirt,
  • I cut a skirt length x the whole fabric width from some fabric I had purchased recently.
  • Gathered this fabric...
  • pinned it on the shirt, sewed it on....
  • and result....a dress....
  • I cut out a few butterflys and sewed them on (first shot at it and mucking around with stitches so not the best result, but I am happy with it none the less).
  • I didn't hem....I used my new overlocker and wanted to show it off by this stitch :)

A Birthday Gift

I found this idea somewhere on the web....I can't remember where...I would like to give the person with this great idea some credit!!
I find it hard to think of birthday presents for my parents.   I came across this a while ago, and thought it was an absolutely lovely idea.   The kids call my mum Oma....three letters, and I have three kids.  So I drew the letters on large cardboard and cut it out....  Then I found a lovely spot in our 'front yard' and tried to take some nice photos of the kids holding the letters.  Trust me....three kids on your own in our front yard, and the dog around, maybe a bobtail or a bull ant lurking around, resulted in lots of photos...and these were the best ones out of them.   I just could not get Miss Muffet to smile at me....and the oldest was not in photo mood.

Polkadot Dress

I purchased this lovely fabric recently:
and turned it into this:
Isn't it gorgeous?  Cant wait for our Little Miss Muffet to wear it...  The pattern I used is from Butterick B4718.
The ribbon has some sentimental value...it was the ribbon we had on our wedding cars :)  The flower was made by gathering the fabric and twirling it into a flower and then sewing it on.

Chook Pen

Now that we have moved to 4 acres we have some room for some chooks (chicken for those outside Australia :) ).  We have started to convert the boys cubby house into a chook pen.  The bare walls needed some colour, so I laid some bricks.   I purchased some big sponges from the local Bunnings Warehouse, some brick coloured paint, and stencilled, bricklayered away...

Mothers Day 2011

Hubby baked some lovely biscuits late at night...I am 'useless' in the kitchen and burned the first batch :)
I found some flowers on the web, printed them on coloured paper, two layers for a 3D? effect.
Added a photo on each flower from each of our kids.  Added some clear celephone, and ribbon and our mothers day gift for my mum was complete.

Pram Bedding

Little Miss Muffet received this gorgeous doll pram from my parents for her 1st birthday.  I sewed a mattress cover using a lone pink towel that was sitting in the cupboard, inserted some foam we still had in the shed (from renovating an old boat?).  I based the mattress cover on a pillowcase as I still want to be able to remove it in case it needs a wash.
(My towels in our home are colour coordinated....I grew up with all the pink towels, my siblings had blue, red, green, black....) and I haven't had the need yet for the pink colours.    My boys share the blue, miss muffet the baby yellow, hubby has brown (dark in case he forgets to wash some grease marks) and I have white.

I sewed a bedsheet and used ribbon for decoration, two small pillows and a bigger dark pink pillow with some white ribbon, a bed quilt....add a doll....and there we have it...a fully decked out pram

A Scarf in one Evening

I recently purchased a loom from here as I was going to 'knit' some socks...which by the way still haven't been made...   Instead I made this scarf in one evening.....it was soooo easy to do....
The loom came with a tutorial DVD and YouTube has many tutorials on how to use a loom.

Just Clowning Around

Kids dress ups.....it was never my favourite when I was a kid...
I sewed a bow from ....drumroll....an old bedsheet from when I was a little girl....you know, the kind where the top is worn out but the rest of the bedsheet is still fine...  I used wire in the inside to keep the bow from flopping over.   The rest....an old pair of red shorts from the cupboard, some suspenders from his little brother, a shirt, lipstick and eye liner, some clown hair and a party hat from a previous birthday part.

M&M cookies in a jar

At the end of the last school year I created these jars for the kids teachers.  I can't remember were I found the idea on the web as I sometimes travel so many sites to get some ideas...   Basically layer the ingredients in a jar, decorate the jar a little, add a recipe card and there you are...  (just in case the teachers get bored during the holidays and feel like making some cookies :) )

Library Bag

At the kids school all the kids have the same library bag....so I decided to 'help' my son find his library bag easier amongst all the other kids by stencilling another sillhouette onto it.   This one is of a boy reading a book....  which I thought was quite applicable for a library bag :)

Gone Fishin'

I have been having trouble finding some decent t-shirts without skullheads in our local stores, so I decided to purchase a plain shirt and try out some stencilling.

  • First  I found, enlarged and printed a Silhouette from the web.
  • I purchased some contact paper (you know, that sticky stuff you use to cover books with), some fabric paint, and some cheap sponge rollers.
  • I transferred the silhouette picture onto the contact paper
  • I cut out the silhouette, keeping in mind that I would only use the outer, and not the inner cutout.
  • I then stuck the contact paper on the t-shirt
  • Using the sponge roller I rolled on the paint onto the cutout on the shirt.  When the paint was dry, I carefully peeled off the contact paper...and voila....
  • I ironed the stencil.
  • I then added some bling, by some thread for the fishing wire, a button for the reel, and a tiny bead for the fish eye.
I have since found out that the white really doesn't suit my boy as it makes him look pale, thus it has been converted into a PJ shirt.
